Blessed Maria Celeste Crostarosa
was born the tenth of twelve children in 1696 in Naples. From her earliest years she enjoyed a special relationship with Jesus. When she was still in formation as a novice, Celeste had a revelation that she would be the instrument by which a new order of nuns would be established. The Order of the Most Holy Redeemer was founded on Pentecost in 1731.
Yet, tribulation followed Celeste and she was expelled from the original monastery in Scala for being faithful to her conscience.
Celeste, a mystic and prolific writer, began a second monastery of the nuns in Foggia, where she died peacefully in 1755. Since then, Sister Celeste’s message of love, joy and liberty has spread throughout the world.
